Environmental Gasket Materials

Environmental gaskets and seals are terms used to describe silicone gaskets which are designed to perform in outdoor weather conditions. They can also be referred to as rain gaskets, freeze resistant gaskets, heat resistant gaskets and UV resistant gaskets. An environmental silicone gaskets will generally display all of these properties which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications across many industries.

The main function an environmental silicone gaskets is to keep out rain and moisture and to not degrade when exposed to high temperatures or UV rays. It should also not crack in freezing temperatures. Wind driven rain, melting snow and ice are all environmental situations which need to be considered when choosing the best material for a rubber gasket or seal which is to going to be used outdoors.

Materials Used for Environmental Gaskets include:
Closed cell silicone foam flame rated, cost effective with a low compression set.
Closed cell silicone sponge sheet tougher, wide temperature range with a low compression set.
Closed cell EPDM sponge offers good UV resistance
Closed cell Neoprene sponge oil resistant

Wash down gaskets are a type of environmental gasket designed to be used either outdoors or indoors in various areas of manufacturing which require the use of power washers.
